People with eye problems in Phnom Penh can get free check-ups, glasses and even surgery this Saturday, 17 October, in a large free eye care event run by Preah Ang Duong Hospital.
The hospital, working with The Fred Hollows Foundation Cambodia, says it aims to help 5,000 people.
What is free
- Eye examinations
- Prescription glasses
- Eye surgery for those who need it
When and where
- Date: Saturday, 17 October 2026
- Time: 7:00am to 12:00 noon
- Place: Phnom Penh Thmey Primary School, Street 1019 (Phnom Penh–Hanoi Friendship Boulevard), Phnom Penh Thmey village, Sangkat Phnom Penh Thmey, Khan Sen Sok, Phnom Penh
The event was announced by the hospital, led by director Assoc. Prof. Lou Lykheang.
Tips if you plan to go
Arrive early, as many people are expected and the event ends at noon. Bring your ID card, any glasses you already use, and a list of medicines you take. Older people who have blurry or cloudy vision — a common sign of cataracts — should bring a family member to help them.
Free eye care events like this can change lives. Many people in Cambodia, especially older people in poorer families, lose their sight to problems such as cataracts that can be fixed with a short operation.
